    Quaternions and Special Relativity

    We reformulate Special Relativity by a quaternionic algebra on reals. Using {\em real linear quaternions}, we show that previous difficulties, concerning the appropriate transformations on the 3+13+1 space-time, may be overcome.     Octonionic Representations of GL(8,R) and GL(4,C)

    Octonionic algebra being nonassociative is difficult to manipulate. We introduce left-right octonionic barred operators which enable us to reproduce the associative GL(8,R) group. Extracting the basis of GL(4,C), we establish an interesting connection between the structure of left-right octonionic barred operators and generic 4x4 complex matrices.     The Gelfand map and symmetric products

    If A is an algebra of functions on X, there are many cases when X can be regarded as included in Hom(A,C) as the set of ring homomorphisms. In this paper the corresponding results for the symmetric products of X are introduced. It is shown that the symmetric product Sym^n(X) is included in Hom(A,C) as the set of those functions that satisfy equations generalising f(xy)=f(x)f(y). These equations are related to formulae introduced by Frobenius and, for the relevant A, they characterise linear maps on A that are the sum of ring homomorphisms.     Hilbert-Schmidt Operators vs. Integrable Systems of Elliptic Calogero-Moser Type III. The Heun Case

    The Heun equation can be rewritten as an eigenvalue equation for an ordinary differential operator of the form d2/dx2+V(g;x)-d^2/dx^2+V(g;x), where the potential is an elliptic function depending on a coupling vector gR4g\in{\mathbb R}^4. Alternatively, this operator arises from the BC1BC_1 specialization of the BCNBC_N elliptic nonrelativistic Calogero-Moser system (a.k.a. the Inozemtsev system). Under suitable restrictions on the elliptic periods and on gg, we associate to this operator a self-adjoint operator H(g)H(g) on the Hilbert space H=L2([0,ω1],dx){\mathcal H}=L^2([0,\omega_1],dx), where 2ω12\omega_1 is the real period of V(g;x)V(g;x). For this association and a further analysis of H(g)H(g), a certain Hilbert-Schmidt operator I(g){\mathcal I}(g) on H{\mathcal H} plays a critical role. In particular, using the intimate relation of H(g)H(g) and I(g){\mathcal I}(g), we obtain a remarkable spectral invariance: In terms of a coupling vector cR4c\in{\mathbb R}^4 that depends linearly on gg, the spectrum of H(g(c))H(g(c)) is invariant under arbitrary permutations σ(c)\sigma(c), σS4\sigma\in S_4

    Some addition formulae for Abelian functions for elliptic and hyperelliptic curves of cyclotomic type

    We discuss a family of multi-term addition formulae for Weierstrass functions on specialized curves of genus one and two with many automorphisms. In the genus one case we find new addition formulae for the equianharmonic and lemniscate cases, and in genus two we find some new addition formulae for a number of curves, including the Burnside curve.Comment: 19 pages.     Particles in a magnetic field and plasma analogies: doubly periodic boundary conditions

    The NN-particle free fermion state for quantum particles in the plane subject to a perpendicular magnetic field, and with doubly periodic boundary conditions, is written in a product form. The absolute value of this is used to formulate an exactly solvable one-component plasma model, and further motivates the formulation of an exactly solvable two-species Coulomb gas. The large NN expansion of the free energy of both these models exhibits the same O(1) term. On the basis of a relationship to the Gaussian free field, this term is predicted to be universal for conductive Coulomb systems in doubly periodic boundary conditions.Comment: 12 page

    Entanglement-Saving Channels

    The set of Entanglement Saving (ES) quantum channels is introduced and characterized. These are completely positive, trace preserving transformations which when acting locally on a bipartite quantum system initially prepared into a maximally entangled configuration, preserve its entanglement even when applied an arbitrary number of times. In other words, a quantum channel ψ\psi is said to be ES if its powers ψn\psi^n are not entanglement-breaking for all integers nn. We also characterize the properties of the Asymptotic Entanglement Saving (AES) maps. These form a proper subset of the ES channels that is constituted by those maps which, not only preserve entanglement for all finite nn, but which also sustain an explicitly not null level of entanglement in the asymptotic limit~nn\rightarrow \infty. Structure theorems are provided for ES and for AES maps which yield an almost complete characterization of the former and a full characterization of the latter.Comment: 26 page

    Random Surfing Without Teleportation

    In the standard Random Surfer Model, the teleportation matrix is necessary to ensure that the final PageRank vector is well-defined. The introduction of this matrix, however, results in serious problems and imposes fundamental limitations to the quality of the ranking vectors. In this work, building on the recently proposed NCDawareRank framework, we exploit the decomposition of the underlying space into blocks, and we derive easy to check necessary and sufficient conditions for random surfing without teleportation.Comment: 13 pages.
